UCR is one of the participating campuses in the University of California Washington Center, which helps carry out the University's mission of research, teaching and service in the nation's capital. The UC Washington Center is a residential, instructional and research facility representing all the UC Campuses. In May of 2011, the University celebrated the UC Washington Center's tenth anniversary, having sent nearly 10,000 students through this prestigious program, fondly known as "UCDC."
The University of California's Washington Center seeks to fill one or possibly two openings for UC Academic Senate Faculty to teach in its consolidated UCDC undergraduate programs for the Academic Year 2012-13. The UCDC program provides opportunities for undergraduates from nine UC campuses to study and participate in public service, science policy and arts internships in Washington, DC for a quarter or semester. The usual Academic Year teaching load is three quarter and one semester seminars of 25 students or less. There are two types of seminars: general social science research seminars and themed seminars that more closely link coursework and writing assignments in a specific topic area to the students' internships.
Successful candidates may apply for one or more quarters or semesters or to be in residence for a full academic year with the possiblity of reappointment. Their home departments will be compensated by funds to cover a full-time lecturer.
